The Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) is a unit of the Division of Continuing Education at The University of Texas at Austin and has been training companies and individuals since 1944.
To obtain cuttings for geological information as formations are penetrated by the bit. The samples are obtained from drilling fluid as it emerges from the wellbore or, in cable-tool drilling, from the bailer.
