flow law
For ice, the physical relation between stress in a material and the strain rate or deformation rate of the material. It represents a macroscopic, continuum approximation of the processes occurring within the material and typically contains parameters (often called constants) that must be determined from experiments. Most flow “laws” are simplifications of some more general relation and are valid only within some range of temperature, stress, etc. , for which a given deformational process is dominant.
