meteorological equator

1. The parallel of latitude of 5°N; so named because this is the annual mean latitude of the equatorial trough. 2. (Also called equatorial trough. ) The axis of the barotropic current that characterizes the low troposphere in equatorial regions. This axis is marked by the presence of a convergence line (the intertropical convergence zone). 3. See heat equator, hyetal equator, thermal equator.
