thinolitic tufa
A tufa deposit of fibrous calcite pseudomorphous after an unknown precursor occurring on an enormous scale in northwestern Nevada; also occurs about Mono Lake, CA. It forms layers of interlaced pale yellow or light brown crystals, commonly skeletal with pyramidal terminations.
